SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man with an “extensive criminal history” was taken into custody in Sumner County following a Saturday night standoff, according to officials.

Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a person threatening to harm his neighbors.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they said they identified the suspect as Travis Smith, who was already wanted for a violation of community corrections warrant from Cheatham County, as well as a failure to appear warrant from Wilson County.

Deputies said they engaged in a brief standoff with Smith — whose criminal history includes assault and weapons charges — before they arrested him.

On Sunday, Nov. 17, officials announced Smith was being held at the Sumner County Jail, facing additional charges of assault and resisting arrest.

“We commend our deputies for their professionalism and swift action to ensure the safety of the community,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

No additional details have been released about the circumstances surrounding Saturday’s incident.

This news comes just days after another Sumner County standoff. Authorities said a man barricaded himself inside a home on Thursday, Nov. 14, causing a road to be blocked for several hours before he was taken into custody.
