CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Springfield woman faces multiple charges after an investigation into the death of a Chapmansboro child.
Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) began investigating the death of 5-year-old Turner Simpkins, who was found dead at his Poplar Ridge Road home in Chapmansboro on July 23, 2023.
During the course of the investigation, agents determined Turner died as a result of chronic blunt force injuries and malnouishment, making the manner of death homicide. The investigation also revealed that Shannon Leigh Elliott, who was dating the victim’s father, was responsible for Turner’s injuries.
Monday, March 4, the Cheatham County Grand Jury indicted Elliott, 26, with on two counts of first degree murder, and three counts of aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment. She was arrested and booked into the Cheatham County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
