VAN BUREN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A person died after they went missing in Fall Creek Falls State Park in Van Buren County Tuesday.
First responders were called to the north entrance of the park around 3 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found tracks in the snow leading into the woods and followed them to a bluff line overlooking Cane Creek gorge.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office reported that due to the steep terrain, deep snow and frigid conditions, rescue personnel were called back to rehab. The Tennessee Highway Patrol was then requested to fly the area with their thermal imaging camera.
The missing person was then located down a 700 foot bluff. It took a crew of park rangers over an hour to hike in to the location.
Crews were eventually able to retrieve the missing person’s body using a a couple of rope systems. The last rescuer made it to the top of the bluff around 8 a.m. Another had to be treated for hypothermia but is expected to be OK.
No additional information was immediately released.
