Michael Jackson’s Unreleased Tapes From 1980s & 1990s Found By Amateur Treasure Hunter

Gregg Musgrove, a former California Highway Patrol officer turned stay-at-home dad, never expected his “treasure hunting” to lead to a bounty tied to the King of Pop. While exploring a storage unit in Van Nuys once owned by music producer Bryan Loren, Musgrove discovered a collection of unreleased Michael Jackson tapes from the late 1980s and early ‘90s, including 12 tracks recorded before “Dangerous.”

The tapes feature Jackson’s creative process, with some songs never before heard by the public. One track, “Don’t Believe It,” seems to address media rumors, while another, “Seven Digits,” refers to morgue identification numbers. A standout is “Truth on Youth,” a rap duet with LL Cool J.

Despite the significance, Musgrove’s find is unlikely to be publicly released.

After consulting the Jackson Estate, they declined to purchase the tapes but clarified that the estate holds the copyright. Musgrove plans to auction the tapes, with a potential seven-figure value, to private collectors, though fans will likely never hear the music.
