Man wanted for murder following 2023 shooting in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — More than 15 months after a man was found shot to death inside a vehicle in a South Nashville neighborhood, authorities announced someone has been indicted for murder.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said 24-year-old Majok Chol, of Nashville, was shot inside his car in the 5200 block of Tusculum Court on June 15, 2023. Chol was reportedly found dead behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger, which was parked in the middle of the street, around 12:15 a.m. after meeting with the occupant of another vehicle.

More than a year later, on Wednesday, Sept. 25, officials announced the indictment of 24-year-old Joel Hernandez for a first-degree murder charge, saying that a detective’s investigation led to the identification of Hernandez as the suspect in the fatal shooting.

According to authorities, Hernandez was last known to have lived in Smyrna. He is now considered a fugitive by law enforcement.
