NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Meteorological summer begins on Saturday, June 1, and the wet weather pattern returns to Middle Tennessee. There is a low-end risk for a severe storm on Saturday, with the primary concern from gusty winds.
The region is water-logged from all the rain during the month of May. This past week’s weather has been rather quiet and pleasant. That will change this weekend. Rain is likely Saturday into Sunday, with a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for a few severe storms mainly Interstate 65 westward.
The severe storm threat will come from wind gusts, but pockets of heavy rainfall will be likely at times. Overall, this threat is low.
Let’s break down your weekend. First, Friday is dry with increasing clouds. A few models bring a few showers by the evening hours, but the rain chances do not increase until late evening, overnight, into Saturday morning.
On Saturday, off and on periods of rain expected to increase by the afternoon and evening. Some available instability will support thunderstorms, and perhaps one or two could turn severe with heavy rain and wind gusts the primary hazards.
Rain chances continue Sunday morning, but moving toward the Cumberland Plateau by the afternoon hours. Sunshine returning, making it feel more humid with highs in the 70s and 80s.
Looking into the first full week of June, rain chances continue each day, potentially lingering into CMA Fest in Nashville. A typical summertime weather pattern, but there will be dry times. Stay tuned for updates.
