Ice Spice Reaches Settlement In Copyright Lawsuit Over Song ‘In Ha Mood’

Ice Spice has found a resolution to her legal troubles.

The 24-year-old rapper has reached an agreement to settle a copyright lawsuit regarding her hit song In Ha Mood, which faced allegations of being copied from Brooklyn rapper D.Chamberz’s 2021 track In That Mood.

In a motion filed in federal court on Friday (Sep. 13), attorneys for both parties announced that they had come to terms, although specific details of the settlement remain undisclosed.

In Ha Mood made waves after its release early last year, following Ice Spice’s breakout in 2022. The track climbed to No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 18 on the US Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. It was also featured on her debut EP, Like..?, and showcased during her performance as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live in October.

D.Chamberz initially filed the lawsuit in January, claiming that the similarities between the two songs were so pronounced that they could not be coincidental.

He argued that the overlapping elements…

“go [to] the core of each work … by every method of analysis, ‘In Ha Mood’ is a forgery.”

His lawsuit claimed that D.Chamberz’s song had received “significant airplay” on major New York City radio stations, including Hot 97 and Power 105.1, which provided Ice Spice and her team the opportunity to hear it.

Alongside Ice Spice, the lawsuit also named her frequent producer, RiotUSA (Ephrem Lopez, Jr.), as well as Universal Music Group, Capitol Records, and 10K Projects as defendants. Although the defendants denied the allegations in April, the case remained in its early stages until this recent settlement agreement.
