‘Devastating’: Students, parents and officials react to vandalism at Spring Hill High School

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) – Spring Hill high School was forced to close after a senior prank went too far.

“Pretty devastating, pretty disappointing. There was a lot of food stuff, a lot of toilet paper, a lot of debris,” Maury School Superintendent Lisa Ventura explained of the destruction, adding that their were paintballs and a number of liquids throughout the halls and classrooms.

As videos and photos of the damage rolled in on social media, students like Tricia and Kaleigh Totty were in disbelief.

“Desks piled up, books everywhere, trash spread throughout the school and then flower in the fan in a teacher’s classroom, just the amount of damage is just unbelievable,” they told News 2.

Kaleigh is a senior who missed her final day of school due to the actions of others.

“It’s just heartbreaking,” she said.

A mother of a senior student told News 2 that her daughter participated in the planned prank, saying it was school approved and that a school official let the group of students inside. The parent said when plans got out of hand, her daughter left.

Teachers, admins and maintenance crews spent Friday cleaning up the mess with the superintendent saying thankfully the destruction wasn’t as bad as anticipated.

“Just imagining people getting in their head that it’s okay to do this is just beyond me,” stated Kaleigh.  

Many students and parents feared that seniors wouldn’t be able to walk at graduation next Friday, May 10. However, school officials confirmed that graduation will go on as planned and classes at the high school will resume Monday, May 6.

Ventura said camera footage is being reviewed to see what unfolded inside the school and what disciplinary actions will be taken. She added claims that this was a planned prank day with someone allowing the students inside is still being investigated.

Ventura added the community offered an incredible amount of help, saying they even offered to replace the food students used that had been collected for the nonprofit, The Well.

The Maury County Sheriff’s Office said they are continuing to investigate the vandalism.
