NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An early morning shooting in the Lakewood neighborhood of Old Hickory left two men dead, one of whom is believed to be the gunman responsible for the other’s death, according to law enforcement.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the incident was reported outside of a home in the 100 block of Fields Drive around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Witnesses told officers an argument took place during a party when 41-year-old Steven Gutierrez, who lived at the home, allegedly shoved a 19-year-old man. According to police, the 19-year-old pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Gutierrez multiple times.
Authorities said Gutierrez was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, officials reported the 19-year-old — who left the scene with his group of friends — was dropped off at TriStar Summit Medical Center with a single gunshot wound, but he died shortly afterward. Efforts are underway to notify his next of kin.
Police said they are still investigating how the 19-year-old was shot. No additional details have been released.
This marks at least the third deadly shooting of the weekend in Nashville, including one along Hallborough Way on Saturday, Aug. 31 that killed a 16-year-old boy and one on Patricia Drive earlier Sunday morning that killed a 37-year-old man, according to MNPD.
