ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WKRN) — It’s been 16 years since a John Overton High School student seemingly disappeared without a trace, and still little is known about what may have happened to him.

Around 10:30 a.m. on April 19, 2008, Oscar Alexander Campos reportedly walked into the woods near his Antioch home on Dory Drive and never returned. He was just 16 years old at the time.

As far as detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department are aware, Campos’s mother was the last known person to see him. However, Campos reportedly had friends and family in California and Florida.

In an interview with News 2 in 2022, Metro Nashville Cold Case Detective Matthew Filter said Campos had told people he wanted to go back to California.

The California Attorney General’s Office put out information about Campos following his disappearance, but years later, it’s still unclear whether he ever made it out of Davidson County.

According to Filter, there’s no evidence to show whether Campos is alive or dead.

“Unfortunately, there isn’t much to go on with this case. No one has seen or heard from him since he walked into the woods,” Filter told News 2.

If still alive today, Campos would be 32 years old. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children recently produced a photo of what Campos might look like at 31 years old in hopes that someone might recognize him.

Police are also holding out hope that someone might come forward with information after all these years. “It’s very important to keep this information circulating as you never know who may see the individual,” Filter said.

When he left his home 16 years ago, Campos was wearing a light blue shirt, black jeans and had his hair styled in a purple Mohawk. His left ear is pierced, and he previously fractured his right knee.
