Tory Lanez Motion For A New Trial In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case Gets Court Date + Prosecutors Respond To Accusations Of Unlawfully Misleading Jury: ‘The Evidence Is Overwhelming’
Jailed rap star Tory Lanez has his big day in court soon.
The 31-year-old is reportedly is set to appear in front of a judge this Monday April 10th, after motioning to appeal his guilty verdict in the infamous Megan Thee Stallion shooting case.
If you recall, Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in December of last year. The former friends got into a heated altercation back in July of 2020 which led to the Houston rapper, real name Megan Pete, 27, being struck by a bullet in the foot.
Due to the prosecutions strong argument, Lanez was convicted on assault charges and is awaiting sentencing, or a new trial. As previously stated, the musician has motioned the court asking to appeal the verdict, citing several “erroneous” errors made on the prosecutions end.
However, the state attorney’s recently responded, claiming Lanez motion is based on no merit. A statement released by the prosecutions office reportedly read:
“The evidence presented at trial was properly admitted, and the defendant’s claims of errors and violations of his constitutional rights are without merit…The verdict reached by the jury was based on credible evidence and was supported by the law.”
And continued:
“Therefore, the People respectfully urge the court to uphold the jury’s verdict and deny the defendant’s motion for a new trial,”
Additionally, the statement highlighted the “overwhelming” evidence that proved Lanez as the triggerman. The statement reportedly referenced “multiple eyewitnesses identifying the rapper-crooner as the shooter, the gun used in the assault found at his feet and his recorded apologies for the shooting.”
If Lanez is unsuccessful at his bid for a new trial he faces a potential 22 year prison sentence. The court will reportedly schedule him for a sentencing date later this month or early May should the case move forward.
