Timbaland Working To Commercialize AI Software That Will Grant Producers Exclusive Rights To Use Voices Of Late Music Legends: ‘I’m Going To Lead The Way’
Illustrious producer Timbaland is creating his own wave through AI!
Just weeks after giving a sneak peek of his dream Biggie collaboration (thanks to the help of AI), Timbaland has revealed that he’s opening the door for other posthumous song productions.
As previously reported, earlier this month, Timbaland took to his Instagram to preview a track with vocals that imitated the late rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (aka Biggie).
During the video clip, prior to pressing play on the now-controversial project, the 51-year-old beatmaker said,
“I gotta share something I’ve been working on because I always wanted to do this, and I never got a chance to. I always wanted to work with B.I.G., and I never got a chance to… ’til today! It came out right!”

However, although the (unreleased) tune caused quite the fuss online, in a recent interview, Timbaland revealed that it would actually stay in the vault until he gets the “okay” from Biggie’s estate. In the meantime, the record master is focused on “commercializing” AI voice filter software that could have a huge impact on the music industry.
If you aren’t aware, AI (which stands for artificial intelligence) is the advanced development of computer systems that are able to innovatively perform human-like, mind-blowing tasks… completely on their own. With the rise of the technology-driven product, many businesses, creatives, and/or entrepreneurs are implementing the use of it to conveniently weed out the need for manual labor. This growing revelation is among today’s top debates, as most believe that it’s robbing society of its productivity.
But… for Timbaland, who’s seeking to tap into an “unprecedented world of creativity in music,” that’s (seemingly) the least of his worries. According to the Virginia native, he’s hoping to aid budding and established artists in “achieving more success,” saving time in the melody-making process, and providing “exclusive rights” to those looking to obtain the voices of “music legend[s] who [are] no longer with us.”
Even though the legalities surrounding copyright issues are at an all-time high, Timbaland is preparing to get the ball rolling with his high-grade AI voice filter model. The product was crafted by Light Energy Labs, a company that he and programmer Zayd “Creatrgod” Portillo founded together.
When speaking of the startup venture, Timbaland said,
“It’s going to really be a new way of creating and a ew way of generating money with less costs. I’m already here. This is what I’m doing. I’m going to lead the way.”
He later added,
“We’re the culture, man. So, I, at least, got to come in the door. Usually, someone else gets to it and it blows up.”
