RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A logging truck driver is facing charges in connection with a crash on the edge of Rutherford County last week that resulted in a toddler’s death.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the incident took place at approximately 9:38 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 in the 6300 block of Couchville Pike.

Officials said a 2013 Freightliner GPI, which is a type of logging truck, was heading west on Couchville Pike with an improperly secured boom. The boom swung into oncoming traffic, hitting the front of an eastbound 2014 Nissan Versa. Following the collision, the logging truck came to a controlled stop at the scene while the Nissan went off the road before stopping in a private driveway.

THP said a 2-year-old boy who was riding in the Nissan died after the crash. The child was not identified in the report News 2 received on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old driver and a 25-year-old passenger in the Nissan were both injured, according to authorities. However, there is no word on the nature of those injuries or their current conditions.

Even though the driver of the logging truck — identified as 61-year-old Christopher B. Holloway — was not injured in the collision, he is facing multiple charges following the incident, including reckless vehicular homicide and aggravated assault, THP reported.
