‘Swarm’ Star Dominique Fishback Shares That Despite Many Similarities Between The Series & Beyonce, The Project ‘Really Isn’t’ About The Singer & Her Fans
Dominique Fishback is sharing the tea on all things Swarm!
The actress has been acting professionally since 2014, but she’s recently hit a new level of stardom thanks to her role as Andrea “Dre” Greene, the main protagonist of Amazon Prime’s Swarm, who is insanely obsessed with a musician to the point that she’s willing to murder to express her love. Many people have speculated that the series is based on Beyonce and how seemingly obsessive her own fanbase can be, but, according to Dominique Fishback, that isn’t necessarily true.
During an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, the host said to the 32-year-old entertainer:
“Dre, your character, is obsessed with a pop star. You have read all the articles, people say it’s Beyonce based. That the swarm is the Beyhive and that Ni’Jah is the Beyonce character. Is this about Beyonce and the Beyhive?”
Dominique Fishback replied,
“No, it really isn’t. I think in order for us to relate to it more, you have to see somebody [else]. We know, as a society, how much we love Beyonce, In this show, it’s like an alternate universe, if Beyonce didn’t exist and it was this woman named Ni’Jah.”
And while Dominique is certainly building a name for herself due to her role in Prime’s No. 1 show, she’s still actively working on perfecting her brand. In response to Tamron Hall asking just what she wants that brand to be, the actress said,
“I want to be the heroine with a thousand faces, because I don’t want to get put in a box. I want to be able to do any genre, in any way, and so that’s what I’m aiming for.”
Swarm centers on Andrea “Dre” Greene (Fishback), who, like countless others around the globe, views (fictional) multi-platinum recording artist and dancer Ni’Jah as God’s gift to the planet. For Dre and her close friend Marissa (Chloe Bailey), Ni’Jah helped shape their identities and bring them closer together.

The Prime series, which lists Donald Glover as a writer, begins at a point in the friends’ lives when it’s obvious their closeness hasn’t exactly been healthy for either of them, despite the fact that they had previously been able to connect over their shared love of Ni’Jah‘s music and a Twitter fan page for their favorite musician.
The series also features Leon Robinson, Cree Summer, Snowfall actor Damson Idris, pop star Billie Eillish, and Michael Jackson‘s daughter, Paris Jackson.
