Stephen A. Smith Doesn’t Believe Donald Trump Is Racist: ‘I’ve Never Thought Of Him That Way’

Sports media personality Stephen A. Smith has an unpopular opinion about the former president.

During a recent interview, the ESPN host gave an uncommonly positive account of Donald Trump, claiming that based on their previous relationship, he doesn’t believe the famed businessman is racist.

According to a report from Radar Online, the TV vet spoke about the matter during Semafor’s inaugural media summit in New York City yesterday (April 10th). Discussing the controversial 45th US president, Stephen A. Smith stated:

“I knew Trump before he ran for the [2016] presidency. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him. He was a huge sports fan. He used to throw a lot of events at…his casinos and stuff like that, and I genuinely liked them.”

However, the 55-year-old said by the time Trump began his campaign for the presidency, he no longer recognized the fun sports fanatic he once knew. Smith continued:

“I didn’t know who this guy was running for president. I think he’s changed,”

As we’ve covered extensively, Donald Trump has been accused of many things throughout his business career and certainly his political journey. Misogyny, divisiveness, and racism have all been terms used to describe Trump and his White House administration. However, Smith said one thing he’s certain of is that he never considered the New York native to be racist.

 “I will tell you this, I think when people call him racist and stuff like that, I’ve never thought of Trump that way. It’s not, he’s not against Black people. He’s against all things not named Trump.”

The First Take host seemingly defending the politician’s character comes days after Trump turned himself into authorities. As we previously reported, the ex-president is being charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents. Additionally, Trump is accused of partaking in a hush money scandal involving women he allegedly had sexual relations with prior to his presidency.
