Missy Elliott Pens Heartwarming Message To Fans After Becoming The First Female Rapper Inducted Into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame: ‘I Am Humbled’

 Missy Elliott has made music history!

On Wednesday (May 3) Missy Elliott, 51, became the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The hip-hop legend’s latest achievement was announced by fellow rapper and previous inductee LL Cool J, 55. While breaking the exciting news, he shared that the 2023 inductees are “recognized for their impact and influence on music while shaping the history of Rock and Roll.”

Greg Harris, CEO of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, released a statement and said:

“All of the other artists look to her as a leader; she’s an amazing songwriter, amazing performer, and she also produces her own stuff. She’s the full package, and it would be fitting if she’s the first female Hip Hop artist to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

Missy Elliott reacted to the history-making news and took to Twitter today (May 3) to thank her fans for being supportive throughout her career. Missy wrote:

 

It’s times I have gotten on line & seen your irrelevant your a flop your washed up & it would crush me at times.BUT God you made me STRONG I kept going & you allowed my decades of WORK to SPEAK 4 itself. I am HUMBLED thank you all my Supporters I LOVE YOU.”

 

She also expressed:

“I want to say CONGRATULATIONS to all the other LEGENDARY artist who will now be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They have committed DECADES of hard work and IMPACT on music I thank you for the TIMELESS music you have shared with the World.”

The Virginia native was originally known in the music industry for writing hits for entertainers such as SWV, Jodeci, and Aaliyah. In 1997 she began her solo career and dropped her debut project “Supa Dupa Fly.” The album premiered at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, which was the highest charting debut for a female rapper at the time. 

To date, Missy Elliott has earned four Grammys, eight MTV Video Music Awards, two American Music Awards, and six BET Awards.
