Ludacris Addresses Critics Who Question Why There Are So Many ‘Fast & Furious’ Movies: ‘We’re Making Billions Of F*cking Dollars’
Well, it looks like rapper/actor Ludacris is finally giving the ‘Fast & Furious’ naysayers the answer they’ve been looking for!
Recently, Ludacris stopped by ‘ALL THE SMOKE with Matt Barnes & Stephen Jackson‘ podcast and explained why the infamous media franchise is (seemingly) never-ending… at this point.
When speaking on how he and the rest of the ‘Fast & Furious’ crew have been able to keep up the longevity of the film continuations, he blatantly expressed,
“That’s one of the things that we seem to defy… stereotypically. Because, you know, as sequels go on and on, before, sometimes… it was like, they would get worse and worse. Arguably, [‘Fast & Furious’ has] gotten better and better. To the point where, people [are] just trying to understand how the h*ll we keep doing this sh*t.”
“I also hear people say, all the time, ‘Why do y’all keep doing these movies?’ That’s the dumbest f*cking question in the world. I’ma tell you why! Because, no matter what industry we’re in–podcast, music, movies–it’s all about a bottom line. It’s all about how much you spend compared to how much you make!”
Known for its action-packed storylines (aside from its famed full-length productions), the entertainment conglomerate is notorious for its street-racing, fast-life theme that spans a variety of fictional spaces, including television series, video games, merchandise, and more.
Directed by Rob Cohen, the first ‘Fast & Furious’ production premiered in 2001, which starred the late Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Yune, Chad Lindberg, Johnny Strong, Matt Schulze, and Ted Levine.
The debut installment was based on an article called ‘Racer X‘ by Ken Li for VIBE Magazine and followed a character named Brian O’Conner (portrayed by Paul Walker), an undercover cop who’s investigating the street racing world.
The second installment (helmed by fallen filmmaker John Singleton) saw the introduction of Ludacris, taking on the role of Brian’s friend, Tej Parker. Singer Tyrese Gibson and actress Eva Mendes also joined the ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ ensemble.
Further in his interview with NBA giants Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Ludacris detailed,
“We’re making billions of f*cking dollars!”
He comically went on to say,
“I’m just giving you my heart; I’m not trying to brag or nothing. So, when some of y’all keep saying, ‘Why the f*ck do y’all keep shooting movies–‘ let me tell you why. ‘Cause if you spend two hundred million and you make a billion, who the f*ck is you gon’ tell to stop shooting movies when you making eight hundred motherf*cking million dollars? How?”
However, although Ludacris is extremely content with his ‘Fast & Furious’ coins, he does understand that not everybody is still intrigued enough to watch the content.
The 45-year-old concluded:
“Even if you don’t like [the movies], even if you don’t want to watch it, stop asking that godd*mn question!”
The most recent release of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, ‘Fast X,‘ was unveiled in the United States on May 19 and serves as the tenth main installment.
