Jerry Springer Seemingly Hinted At His Battle w/ Cancer During Interview Weeks Before His Death
Jerry Springer hinted at his declining health in his last-ever TV interview before passing away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 79.
The iconic talk show host was a guest on Channel Seven’s “The Morning Show” back in February. Following a discussion about Jerry Springer’s latest projects, the interviewer casually asked him about his retirement plans.
According to reports, Jerry Springer never spoke publicly about his cancer battle. However, during the interview, he hinted his life would end before he had the chance to retire. He said,
“I think God may [have plans for when I retire], and so I hope he’s okay with me.”
The London native continued,
“I figured when my judgment day comes, my closing argument [to God] when he’s ready to decide where to send me [is]… ‘Oh, remember my final thought?’ I hope that my final thought is the one that can speak to [my] character.”
When asked what his final thought would be, Jerry passionately repeated the famous catchphrase he would use to close episodes of the “Jerry Springer Show” and said,
“Take care of yourself, and each other.”
As a response, the co-host uplifted the mood by saying the message “wasn’t enough” to get Jerry into heaven, which sent the TV personality into a burst of laughter. Jerry concluded,
“No, that doesn’t even open the door!”
Two months after this interview, news broke that Jerry died “peacefully” at his home in Chicago. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer months before his passing.
Respected for his popular, self-titled talk show, “Jerry Springer,” the media tycoon is known for leading one of the most controversial on-air programs of all time.
The syndicated series aired from 1991 to 2018, with a whopping total of 27 seasons and almost 5,000 episodes under its groundbreaking belt.
According to reports, the critically-acclaimed phenomenon was so triumphant it ultimately surpassed “The Oprah Winfrey Show” at the height of its success.
Jerry’s latest endeavors happened to include his reality court show, “Judge Jerry,” and an appearance on “The Masked Singer.”
