Damar Hamlin ‘Fully Cleared’ To Play Football After Suffering Cardiac Arrest + Diagnosis That Caused On Field Collapse Is Revealed
Damar Hamlin is reportedly “fully cleared” to return to football just four months after suffering cardiac arrest during a game.
According to Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane, the Buffalo Bills safety was cleared “to resume full activities” by multiple specialists and is again working out with the team.
Reportedly, Brandon Beane also noted that the return process for Damar Hamlin was “just like anyone else who was coming back from an injury.” While speaking to reporters at a press conference yesterday (April 18), Brandon Beane shared,
“He’s here, and he is of the mindset, he’s in a great headspace to come back and make his return.”

In addition, Hamlin revealed what exactly led to his collapse on the field in January. He reportedly explained he received multiple expert opinions to reach his diagnosis and each came to the same conclusion. He said it was Commotio Cordis, a rare medical condition that can happen after a sudden impact to the chest, which causes an irregular heartbeat and cardiac arrest.
According to reports, the condition can happen when the impact occurs at “a specific point in your heartbeat,” disrupting the process and causing sudden cardiac arrest.
“Five-to-seven seconds later, you fall out.”
Hamlin also seemingly suggested he would spread more awareness about the condition as he makes his comeback. He mentioned that Commotio Cordis is the,
“leading cause of death in youth athletes across all sports, so that’s something definitely something that [I’ll] be personally taking a step in to make a change.”
“It’s something I want to prove to myself…nobody else. I want to show people that fear is a choice…You just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I want to stand for that.”
Following his announcement to resume his football career, Hamlin recently took to Twitter to share a statement with his fans and followers.
“Thank you for being on this journey with me..”
As previously reported, Hamlin collapsed during an NFL game that took place against the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 2. He suffered cardiac arrest after making a tackle. As you may recall, CPR and automated external defibrillation (AED) were quickly administered after he collapsed. He was then rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
