Cam’ron Sued for Using Famous Pink Fur Photo of Himself On Merch w/o Photographer’s Permission

Rapper Cam’Ron will be prepping for a court battle soon.

According to reports, the Dipset member was hit with a lawsuit recently over the use of the famous image of himself donning a huge pink fur coat with a pink flip phone to match.

A photographer by the name of Djamilla Cochran reportedly filed a complaint against Cam’Ron in New Jersey recently. The woman said the rapper, real name Cameron Giles, used the image on the front of several pieces from his Dipset Couture line, including t-shirts, jewelry, swimsuits, pillows, and shower curtains.

Additionally, the image was reportedly used to promote the merch via social media posts uploaded to the rapper’s Instagram page. All use of the photo, however, was done illegally, without Cochran’s consent. According to reports, the photographer’s legal team attempted to settle the dispute with Cam’Ron directly before involving the court. A statement from the complaint reportedly reads:

“Getty Images notified defendants of their infringing activities by mail and email on multiple occasions…Despite those notifications, defendants continued to sell merchandise and continued to display the photograph on website and accounts.”

The image in question was reportedly taken in 2003 at the Mercedes Benz fashion show in New York. Cam’Ron’s pink fur photo was groundbreaking at its time, and is recognized as one of the most “iconic post-millennium images in hip hop.” Back in January of this year, Drake made headlines after rocking the famous mink during a performance. Along with fellow rapper 21 Savage, Dipset joined the Canadian musician on stage, gleefully surprising fans with a throwback performance.

It does not seem that Cam’Ron has responded publicly to the lawsuit at this time.
